Davy Jones is a fictional character in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. He first appears in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006).
Once a mortal pirate, Davy Jones was a skilled sailor and the original captain of the Flying Dutchman. He fell in love with the sea goddess Calypso, who tasked him with ferrying souls lost at sea to the afterlife.
Betrayed by Calypso, Jones removed his own heart and locked it away in the Dead Man's Chest, becoming immortal but also monstrous. His physical form transformed to resemble various sea creatures, including octopus tentacles for a beard and a crab claw for a hand. Driven by bitterness, he abandoned his duty to ferry souls and became a fearsome pirate, offering sailors deals to serve aboard the Flying Dutchman in exchange for extended life.
